Sustainable Development Goals:Match of the Month: Toine joins the board of Stichting Vrienden van Lunet
When people think of corporate volunteering, they often picture hands-on activities or spending time with a specific community. But your professional expertise can be just as valuable. That’s exactly why Toine Graven (EY) decided to become a board member of Stichting Vrienden van Lunet. Here’s his story:
Earlier this year, Samen voor onze Regio shared a collection of local social challenges with my employer, EY, that matched our area of expertise. That’s how I was introduced to Stichting Vrienden van Lunet. For the past six months, I’ve been serving as a board member of the foundation, which raises additional funding to support the wellbeing of Lunet’s clients.
Why did I choose to get involved this way? As a strategic financial advisor in the healthcare sector, I work every day with organisations that support people in need of care and assistance. I enjoy that work tremendously, but I also believe it’s important to use my knowledge and energy beyond my day-to-day job. Through this role, I’m able to make a tangible contribution to a group of people I deeply care about.
As a board member, I help review and decide on funding requests for projects and activities that provide something extra for Lunet’s clients. It’s inspiring to see how relatively small contributions can make such a meaningful difference in people’s lives. For me, this experience shows how your professional background can be used in a personal and practical way to create social impact in your community.
